Frenquently Asked Questions

Forest Thistle
Can I order the books directly from Morten Moore Publishing?
Yes, you can order the books directly from this publisher. Another option is to order Arizona Trails for Children through your local sporting goods store. Retail outlets, except large bookstore chains, can order the book at your request from our distributor, Canyonlands Publications.
Standing Watch must be ordered directly from the publisher, as a distributor does not carry it.

How is Arizona Trails for Children different from other hiking books?
There are two things that distinguish this book from other hiking books. While there are other books for hiking with children in circulation, this book covers the entire state, including both urban and rural areas. This allows families to plan a vacation with hiking in a region away from their home without first visiting the locale to learn about what is appropriate or available for their use.

Some of the hiking books for children are very general and do not give specific trails but rather general tips on hiking. The trails in this book are specifically chosen for children. Most children do not enjoy hiking sixteen miles both ways, uphill, for a good view so we have chosen trails with some special feature that will appeal to children.
The book also introduces children to the history of the state through storytelling. Many of the chapters have a short story that features a personality unique to that region of Arizona.

Why does Arizona Trails for Children not include a larger map of the state?
You may purchase larger maps of the state from local retailers to plot a route to a particular region. Once readers are within the particular region, the small maps both at the beginning of each chapter as well as the map and directions with each hike are helpful for honing in on the correct location.

Does Standing Watch: the Fire Towers of Arizona, include directions to each fire tower?
We enjoyed visiting each of the towers and talking with the lookouts. However, some of the lookouts have experienced some challenges with the anti-social behavior of a few visitors. For their safety and peace of mind, we leave it to the employees of local ranger stations to give directions to the towers as they choose. Visitors may buy a Forest Service map and trace the route to many of the towers. If you choose to do so, please understand that it is at your own risk. Please understand that even if you arrive on site, the lookout may choose to bar visitors from his or her tower for reasons known only to them.
